From Garden to Table

Impress dinner guests by whipping up a meal using ingredients fresh from the garden. Home grown fruit, vegies and herbs are bursting with flavour and nutrition and when it´s harvested straight from your own garden you can guarantee it´s been grown chemically free.

Unusual Varieties

One of the best things about a backyard vegie patch is that you can grow tasty, unusual varieties which are difficult to find in shops. Look out for heirloom varieties with old fashioned flavour that look as good in the garden as they do on the plate. Bring colour and life to stir fries with Rainbow Silverbeet or create a tasty tomato salad with a kaleidoscope of different coloured tomatoes. ´Green Zebra´ is decorative and tasty with green and yellow striped fruit, or you may consider the red and yellow striped ´Tigerella´ which crops for months and months.

Add variety and interest by planting purple, yellow and white carrots, golden beetroots and purple broccoli. With colourful, flavoursome varieties like these creating tasty garden fresh dishes is simple.

Container Gardens

If you have limited space, create your own potted feast in containers. These days there are so many varieties which are tailor made to grow in pots including compact varieties with full sized fruit, bush forms and mini fruiting types. It doesn´t matter if you are adding interest to a few dishes or feeding the whole family straight from the garden, the rewards are worth it.
